The project houses
the faculty of the European Institute of Health and Medical Sciences,
in Guildford Surrey, and was completed in 1999. The project was built
to a tight University budget and made use of advanced geometry
rationalised through computer to create repetition and economy for the
doubly-curved and conical surfaces of the 'prow' of the building. The
non-repetative elements of the continuous perforated louvers are cut
individually with numerically controlled milling machines. The
aluminium supporting mullions are cut by numerically controlled saw to
varying compound angles, producing an economic solution to a complex
geometrical problem.
